Positions & Activities
My passion in life is to help others achieve their potential. Reflecting this passion, my activities in the community include:
- Teaching students and adults about the law and the legal profession;
- Helping individuals and organizations develop and grow;
- Promoting and demonstrating the use of facilitation and mediation to increase understanding, build consensus, and avoid and resolve disputes.
The Legal Community
In the legal community, I have held a variety of leadership positions in the Suffolk County Bar Association and the Suffolk Academy of Law. I have presented and organized many seminars, often on cutting-edge topics, such as internet law, intellectual property and mediation and contributed many articles to The Suffolk Lawyer. My most recent challenge was to organize and serve as Co-Chair of the newly created Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.
The Business Community
In the business community, I serve as Vice-Chair of the Suffolk County Women's Business Enterprise Coalition, a capacity building organization for women entrepreneurs. I am a member of the Planning and Education Committees of the Women's Expo. I also speak about legal and business ethics issues at many business functions and seminars and write about these issues in my monthly e-newsletter.
Education and Training
Education and training are also two of the primary focuses of my community involvement. I have coached and judged high school moot court competitions and served as the parent representative on the Sayville School District Committee on Education for the Gifted and Talented. Under the auspices of the Long Island Works Coalition Speakers Bureau, I participate in career fairs and speak to middle and high school students about the law and the legal profession.
